Full HD 1080p video playback Supports video formats: MPEG 1/2/4, WMV9, AVI (MPEG4, Xvid, AVC); H.264, MKV, MOV (MPEG4, H.264) Image: JPEG, GIF, TIF/TIFF, BMP, PNG Audio: MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV/PCM/LPCM, AAC, FLAC, Dolby Digital, AIF/AIFF, MKA USB Port, HDMI Port and Composite Output. (Brown Box, Product is Recertified) This product shipped without any of the supporting documentation or software that would normally accompany it. I plugged it in, it worked great. However, without the literature or software I could not access some of the functions or convert any videos I had. I went to the manufacturers website and I had to go through a long process that involved completing forms, numerous phone calls, and being on hold for extended periods just so that I could get what should have been in the box. During this annoying rigmarole I discovered that, since the product was no longer covered by manufacturer warranty (mind you this was brand new and sold by the actual manufacturer through Amazon.com), I could not obtain the missing items, nor could I warranty the product if it failed. Much phone calling, emailing, and arguing later I was able to obtain the missing products and get my warranty extended. Needless to say, none of that should have been necessary. I am very pleased with the product (so far), but these other issues have left a very sour taste in my mouth and made me somewhat distrustful of Western Digital. What kind of manufacturer holds a product on their own shelves past the stamped warranty date, then sells it on-line THEMSELVES, and then won't honor their own policy that says the warranty can be updated if the date of purchase can be demonstrated. Pros 1.Video resolution is great 2.It has two pen drive inputs to read from 3.It has HDMI Cons 1.From all the MKV I've tested so far (about 10) I was just able to play one with audio. Audio is not working even after upgrading the firmware. 2.No matter how many level of folders you have for your pics, videos and music, you'll see everything in one list If you have any idea on how to make the audio work for all mkvs I'd appreciate your feedback. For this price, I'd look seriously at newer models ASUS O!Play - TV HD Media Player (Black) or Western Digital WD TV Live Network-ready HD Media Player WDBAAN0000NBK-NESN. That said... This product is great for what it does, however it has some limitations a purchaser needs to understand for it to be generally useful. First, it will play up to 1080p video and audio on the HDMI output. It can also play high def movies at lower resolutions for the composite RCA outputs if you have an older NTSC TV you want to put back into use in the kids play room. The two USB inputs will accept FAT-16, FAT-32, and NTFS formatted file systems. This means you can store your movies on an external 1.5TB HD and play them back with this unit, or use a USB memory stick to cart your movie over to the player for playback. With two USB inputs, you can use one of each (external HD and memory stick) and they will show up separately in the WD menu system. This unit will work with MKV, AVI, and ISO container formats. This unit will correctly interpret MPEG-4, MPEG-2, and a few other video formats contained within the container files. Similarly, it will playback MPEG-3, AC3, and a few other audio formats within the container files. If the container format (specifically MKV) has more than one audio track, such as directors comments, different languages, etc. each can be individually selected from the WD Player "Options" menu.Read more ›
